WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 19, 2025) – Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Ybarra issued the following statement on this week’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting:
“Ensuring Americans have access to safe and effective FDA-approved vaccines is vital. We fear the ACIP meeting this week has created more confusion for health care professionals and the public.
“Decisions about vaccine recommendations made by the ACIP and adopted by the CDC must be rooted in science. We are increasingly concerned that vaccine policy is being shaped by theories rather than a transparent and rigorous evidence review process—risking the health of our nation and our position as a global leader in public health.
“Policymakers must ensure continued access to vaccines while providing accurate, reliable and transparent information to maintain high vaccination rates and prevent the return of currently controlled diseases. Not doing so risks needlessly harming the public while jeopardizing America’s ability to prevent disease and respond to the next pandemic.
“Simply put, every American should have access to all available tools to protect themselves and their families—including vaccines.”
