On November 2, 2023, PhRMA’s Dr. Michael Ybarra was invited to speak on the panel, “Innovation, Funding and Access to Orphan Drugs: Challenges and Opportunities” at the 2023 North America Rare Disease Summit. During the panel participants examined the current state of rare disease research and the policy solutions needed to advance rare disease treatment. Dr. Ybarra emphasized the harm that the Inflation Reduction Act poses to biopharmaceutical innovation, forcing the industry to rethink its crucial R&D investments, ultimately delaying groundbreaking innovations for patients living with rare diseases.
