PhRMA president and CEO Stephen J. Ubl joined CBS This Morning and MSNBC Live with Ali Velshi to discuss PhRMA member companies’ commitment to providing patients with the information they need to make more informed health care decisions.
Earlier this year, we went around the country to speak directly with patients about what information would be most helpful to them. The results were clear: By a margin of 3 to 1, Americans want to know how much a medicine will actually cost them at the pharmacy counter and what help is available for affording their medicines compared to just including list prices in direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertisements.
This is why our member companies’ DTC television advertisements will soon direct patients to information about medicine costs, including the list price of the medicine, out-of-pocket costs or other context about the potential cost of the medicine and available financial assistance. We will also launch a new platform that will provide patients, caregivers and providers with cost and financial assistance information for brand-name medicines, as well as other patient support resources.
