This January, PhRMA joined health care leaders, investors, R&D experts and members of the media at the 2023 J.P. Morgan Health Care Conference in San Francisco, CA. During this week, we discussed ways to improve patient outcomes, access and affordability in our health care system.
Here are some highlights from the conference:

  • At Endpoints at #JPM, PhRMA president and CEO Steve Ubl joined a panel with Steven D. Pearson, President of ICER, and Greg Baker, co-founder CEO of EmsanaRx, to discuss what’s really driving the cost of health care and medicines in 2023. During this conversation, the panel discussed concerns with a new law that allows the federal government to determine the value of lifesaving medicines and the need to hold middlemen accountable to provide cost relief to patients.

  • At Fierce Pharma’s event, PhRMA’s COO Lori M. Reilly participated in a fireside chat about the 340B program. They discussed how this program, originally designed to help vulnerable patients access health care, is now being exploited by large hospital systems and for-profit pharmacies. Lori addressed PhRMA’s position that these practices can be stopped with increased oversight to ensure that vulnerable patients can get the help they need to afford their medicine.

Patients deserve a health care system that prioritizes access and affordability. Conversations like the ones at this year’s JP Morgan Health Care Conference, are an important step in finding solutions that will make a difference in the lives of patients.
