Communications with Health Care Professionals – Mit Spears, Jeff Francer and Natalie Turner of PhRMA address the key issues currently limiting communications with health care professionals in a recent article in the Food and Drug Law Journal. They propose a modified framework for the FDA to consider with regards to information shared by biopharmaceutical companies. The ultimate goal of this framework is to enhance patient care.  

Advances in Cancer Treatments – The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) highlights the documentary Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, a biography of the disease by award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns takes on the challenge of explaining the impact of a disease which has been around since the beginning of time and will impact more than 1.6 million Americans in 2015 alone. 

Part D Coverage Reduces Hospitalizations – According to a recent study from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Illinois, gaining prescription medicine coverage through Medicare Part D was tied to an eight percent decrease in hospital admissions for seniors. 

Safe Drug Disposal – PhRMA issued a statement on the biopharmaceutical industry’s efforts to help consumers safely dispose of unwanted medicines through voluntary programs. 

340B Spotlight – Recent studies show the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has reduced the uninsured rate by 4.2 percentage points and lowered the amount of uncompensated care that hospitals provide by an estimated $7.4 billion, but the 340B program continues to grow.
