PhRMA provides grant funding to support the Morehouse School of Medicine Satcher Health Leadership Institute’s Health Equity Tracker.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities have always been leaders at the forefront of advancing health equity. That’s why PhRMA is proud to announce our multifaceted, multi-year grant to the Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) to enhance its Health Equity Tracker with information on medication utilization, adherence, and cancer screenings. The Health Equity Tracker calls attention to the underlying relationship between social, economic and political determinants, as well as race and health. Innovative efforts, such as those being created by MSM and SHLI, are needed to close data gaps and address health inequities.

We see an incredible opportunity to identify geographic areas where there are opportunities to curb racial disparities in medication utilization and adherence. To date, health services research has shown surface level disparities in adherence to medicines, but many times, such research lacks context.

Working alongside researchers at MSM and SHLI, we supported the expansion of the Health Equity Tracker to measure disparities in the use of prescription medicines and the local contexts in which these disparities exist. This tool will allow community members, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policy makers to not only identify where disparities exist through data visualization in their local areas, but also to visually layer the local, social, and political barriers associated with these adherence disparities.

PhRMA is proud to support the SHLI Health Equity Tracker. This initiative has produced a valuable resource for a wide range of stakeholders  to address disparities in how medicines are used in local communities.

We encourage you to use the  Health Equity Tracker, which is available online at HealthEquityTracker.org.
