Celebrating advances in diabetes research

November is American Diabetes Month, and as we do our part to bring awareness to diabetes, we are also celebrating over a century of medical advancements that have transformed diabetes care. From the discovery of insulin in 1921 to today’s long and rapid-acting insulins and the new GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors for type 2 diabetes, innovation has continually improved the health and quality of life for those living with diabetes. These innovations allow for more precise, personalized management and significantly reduce the risk of complications associated with the disease.

American Diabetes Month highlights not only the progress made, but also the ongoing need for more research to improve treatments and, ultimately, find a cure. By recognizing these advancements, we at PhRMA honor both the science and the resilience of millions affected by diabetes and we remain committed to working with policymakers to ensure Americans have affordable access to these advancements.
