Environmental Sustainability:
Sustainability
Gilead operates in many communities around the world. We believe our impact should be positive, enriching and sustainable. Our goal is to promote efforts that minimize our effect on climate change and lower our consumption of natural resources. We seek to increase renewable energy use and recycling efforts, lessen our contribution to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve chemistry practices. Sustainability is core to how we are working to build a better world with people, partners and communities around the globe.
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
To make good on our commitment to sustainability, Gilead has joined the world’s leading companies to reduce GHG emissions. Climate change presents a material threat to human health and environments worldwide. Gilead is committed to mitigating our impact by doing our part to improve our environmental practices though conservation and pollution prevention. This includes reaching our Science Based Target to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 46% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and also to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 15% over the same timeframe.
A Workplace for Tomorrow
When Gilead set out to design a new research building, the company had big aspirations. The aim was to not just deliver a facility that achieved the scientific ambitions of today but to build a space that would encourage researchers to focus on their scientific visions of tomorrow.
Access & Affordability:
HepConnect
In response to the intersecting opioid and HCV epidemics, Gilead Sciences launched HepConnect, a five-year, multi-million-dollar initiative to help address the increase in HCV and support community partnerships in Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
COMPASS Initiative
The Gilead COMPASS (COMmitment to Partnership in Addressing HIV in Southern States) Initiative is a 10-year, $100+ million partnership with community-based organizations working to combat the HIV epidemic in the Southern United States.
HIV Age Positively
Ending the Epidemic
We believe that people should have access to the same quality healthcare, regardless of their background and circumstances. Through the Zeroing In™: Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) grant program we aim to support organizations working to increase the overall health and wellness of communities most impacted by HIV. Zeroing In supports 116 organizations and partners across 47 countries who are striving to help end the HIV epidemic.
Lift
The Gilead Lift initiative was created to provide grant support to organizations working to improve the experience and education of patients, families and caregivers exploring or receiving cutting edge cancer therapies. These grants are supporting organizations in the United States working to expand outreach and education about cell therapy treatment, as well as assisting organizations seeking to raise awareness about the role of clinical trials in improving outcomes for people with cancer.
