Medicare Monday: Open enrollment starts this weekend.

Believe it or not, we’re almost halfway through October which means Medicare Open Enrollment is rapidly approaching. Starting Saturday, October 15, through Wednesday, December 7, newly qualified patients and current Medicare beneficiaries may review their coverage options and select their 2017 health plan choices.

In preparation, there are nationwide tools that you should check out:

  • Medicare Plan Finder: This online tool will help you run a personalized search to see what options are available for you in your area. By using what you know about your medical needs, such as your current list of prescription medicines, you can find plan options that work for you. Visit:
  • 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227): Hoping to speak with someone directly about your options? This helpline or are both great tools.
  • Medicare & You: This handbook has all the information you need to know about Medicare and Open Enrollment for 2017.

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program in your state (SHIP) may be able to help during open enrollment. You can also visit your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) office for assistance.
