Ask About Adherence is a blog series featuring Q&A’s with experts in medication adherence. But, this week we are straying from our regular format to announce that the PhRMA Foundation has awarded four research grants as part of its Young Investigator Adherence Grant Program.

Established in 2012, the Young Investigator Adherence Grant Program was created by the PhRMA Foundation to support research conducted by predoctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty to advance knowledge of innovative and effective approaches to improve medication adherence.

This year’s awards will help fund research projects at various academic institutions related to understanding the role of insurance plan characteristics, care transition programs, predictive modeling techniques, and patient-centered counseling programs in improving medication adherence. The 2015 grantees are:

  • Xian Shen, MS, University of Maryland
  • Satya Surbhi, MS, University of Tennessee
  • Sujit S. Sansgiry, PhD, University of Houston
  • Susan Abughosh, PhD, University of HoustonAsk-About-Adherence-Thumbnail

In the last three years, the PhRMA Foundation has supported eleven promising adherence researchers who share the goal of finding large scale approaches to improve medication adherence. To be considered for an award, applications undergo a rigorous peer review process in which each is scored and ranked by a panel of seasoned academic researchers.

Be sure to follow the Ask About Adherence blog series in the coming weeks to learn more about the grantees and their research.
