The PhRMA Foundation is seeking applications for its Young Investigator Center for Adherence Improvement Award. The award will provide stipend support for individuals who are doing research that will advance and improve medication adherence. Three different types of awards will be granted: pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and research starter. This year the deadline for applications is October 1st.
Not only does medication adherence play a central role in helping keep patients healthy, it also contributes to the financial stability of the U.S. economy. Close to 75 percent of adults do not take their medicines as prescribed by their physicians, and it has been shown that medication non-adherence can lead to an economic burden of $100 billion to $300 billion a year. The opportunity to improve health outcomes and help to control costs to the healthcare system suggest a need for more research to be done in this area.
